Democracy campaigners urge Andy Burnham to champion electoral reform

Local democracy campaigners are optimistic that electoral reform has taken a leap forward with the appointment of Andy Burnham as our new Prime Minister.

Andy is an enthusiastic supporter of proportional representation. He is on record as saying “There’s nothing more unstoppable than an idea whose time has come and PR’s time has definitely come”.

Nick Senior from Sefton and West Lancashire Make Votes Matter said “With PR, every vote counts and seats match votes.  We hope Andy shows the same passion for PR now as he did when Mayor of Greater Manchester.  As a first step he should set-up a National Commission to advise on a fair voting system”.

Nick continued, “Over 50% of the public want to change our voting system.  Change is long overdue and Andy Burnham has the chance to make history”.
