A Wigan councillor for more than two decades, Bob was described as ‘always having the concerns of his constituents at heart’
Funeral details have been announced for Bob Brierley, a long-standing Wigan councillor who died last week.
Tributes were paid from across the political spectrum to Coun Brierley, who represented Hindley Green at the town hall for 22 years.
Described as ‘Mr Hindley Green’, Coun Brierley, 67, was described as a ‘dedicated’ and ‘passionate’ man who ‘served his constituents well for many years’.
He originally represented the Community Action Party and later sat an Independent.

Ward colleague Coun James Palmer, who described Bob as a ‘dedicated councillor’ shared details of his funeral arrangements, which is being held on Friday, September 25.
A service will be held at 1pm at St John’s, Hindley Green with the cortege then travelling to Howe Bridge crematorium for 2.30pm.
A wake will then be held at Hindley Green social club.
A family statement said: “We hope everyone who knew and loved uncle Bob can join us to say our final farewell and share memories.”
Coun Brierley’s commitment to the area was demonstrated when he bought his own sit-on mowing machine to cut the grass to a good standard around the area.
Earlier in his life he worked ‘on the buses’ for 10 years and later set up his own business as a saw doctor.
His charity work often saw him fundraising at the Three Sisters race circuit in Ashton and money raised at these events was donated many charities.
Coun Nazia Rehman, leader of Wigan Council, said: “He was always a strong voice and a committed advocate for the ward he represented.
“While we did not always share the same political views and opinions, it was always clear how passionate Bob was about serving his community and supporting the people who elected him.”
