‘It’s not essential, so definitely not!’: Your views on whether nightclubs should be allowed to reopen

The Night Time Industries Association said a risk-assessed return for clubs and venues is possible as the sector reaches a “critical point” with thousands of jobs at risk.

Last week the association said three out of five businesses could go bust by September unless they were allowed to reopen.

Here is a selection of your views on whether nightclubs should be allowed to open:

Do you think nightclubs should be allowed to reopen?

John Price said: “Just empower people to make their own minds up based on their set of unique circumstances. If someone is vulnerable then it’s probably best they don’t go clubbing it. If someone has been clubbing it then maybe they don’t go and visit grandma who is suffering from heart failure and COPD.”

Ste Andrews said: “The problem with that is that much of the population lack any and all common sense.”

Phoenix Ashley said: “I would agree but at the start of this all my boss was bragging about going to his local pub every night. Coming into work knowing full well a few of us were high risk. High risk people work with you. Some of us are young and we have to work too.”

Marcus Arrowsmith said: “But that means teachers, nurses, care workers shouldn’t go to nightclubs – there’s no way they’d not go if all their friends were going, so we’d be back to people spreading the virus in the most dangerous places.”

Mark Taylor said: “Don’t be stupid.”

Dylan Drake said: “As long as they don’t get over-crowded like many pubs seem to be and become another potential breeding ground of Covid.”

Cherry Evans said: “Can you imagine a face mask on the dance floor?”

Brendan Lundberry said: “As long as they stop this localised lockdown nonsense first.”

Chris Arkinstall said: “How can we reopen nightclubs when only two weeks ago they were being slagged off for opening one night causing a local lockdown?”

Pat Bailey said: “No way!”

Asif Mamun said: “Keep the nightclubs closed.”

Annette Kirkham Lakeland said: “NO! They can’t behave themselves as it is ,so what makes you think this is a good idea.”

Susan Taylor said: “Another stupid idea, masks on the dance floor? Yes that’s going to work, you cannot social distance in a nightclub, go dancing but cannot visit a family member, wish someone with a brain would work for the government.”

Paul Bette said: “Not essential. Definitely not!”
