Want to learn more about water sports? Inspired by Team GB Olympic sailing and paddling successes, or just fancy some time out with (or away from?) the family on August Bank Holiday Saturday?

Then come along to Scotman’s Flash, Wigan WN3 5HJ between 11 am and 4 pm on 28 August to take part in Wigan and St Helens Sailing Club (and Canoeing Group) RYA “Discover Sailing” open day where you can learn more and have fun sampling what’s on offer. Refreshments and shoreside activities: including a children’s’ entertainer in the afternoon. Car Parking. Sign up on Eventbrite or drop in and sign up on the day. We will provide personal flotation aids, but not wetsuits, so wear old clothes and flat shoes, and a set of dry clothes might be useful.

After completing the registration process, you will get an opportunity to ride for about 20 minutes in a sailing dinghy under the control of an experienced helm. The helm is under instruction to cancel the session if they deem it unsafe.

You will also get an opportunity to take a low-speed powerboat ride around the Flash under the control of experienced and qualified power boat drivers. Powerboat rides are usually popular for children and those less confident in a dinghy. This ride will also take at least 20 minutes.

Paddling taster sessions will be provided by Wigan Canoeing Group. These are subject to a suitability assessment on the day.
